The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief by Francis S Collins, Free Press, New York 2007 (paperback).

This book raises issues which may be of interest to some Eremos members. Dr Collins, Head of the Human Genome Project, traces his journey from agnosticism, to atheism to (Christian) theism. ‘In my view’, he writes, ‘there is no conflict in being a rigorous scientist and a person who believes in a God who takes a personal interest in each one of us.’ CS Lewis was an important influence in this journey and is frequently quoted. Among the many issues considered are the Creation (yes to a ‘supernatural force that is outside of space and time’, no to Creationism, no to Intelligent Design, yes to evolution and Theistic Evolution which Collins prefers to call BioLogos), Adam and Eve, Richard Dawkins, the Moral Law, sin, the crucifixion and resurrection (but not the virgin birth), homosexuality and genes, intelligence and genes, stem cell research and human cloning.  As some of the reviews on amazon.com reveal, the book has thoughtful supporters and critics.
