This group is in recess at present and I am not sure whether it will reconvene. Another group has begun at the Wesley Uniting Church in the Crown Street Mall and this may be a replacement. It began with the discussion of Spong’s new book.

Blue Mountains (NSW)
The Blue Mountains group continues to meet on the last Friday of the month in members’ homes from Blackheath to Blaxland and between. We start at 10am with morning tea and finish around 12:30.
Some comments on our current book include:
‘We are still wading through The Existential Jesus and most of us still find the book infuriating, for various reasons, but it has made us re-examine our own beliefs.’
‘The studies open the doors to deepening and broadening discussions.’ ‘In reading Carroll it is like following his own personal interpretation of Mark’s gospel without much reference to scholarship.’
We will be finishing John Carroll’s The Existential Jesus in May and in June will have a session where we share our favourite poems. Then we hope to read Karen Armstrong’s books: A Short History of Myth and The Spiral Staircase from Eremos Books for Groups.

Beecroft/Epping (NSW)
Currently (April) this group is continuing discussion of issues emerging from the articles in the special 100th edition of the Eremos magazine. After this we (at last!) plan to spend several sessions (second Saturday in the month 2pm to 5pm at Beecroft) looking at Val Webb’s new book Like Catching Water in a Net. As numbers have grown we have decided, with some regret but in the interest of good discussion and member involvement, that for the time being we should defer accepting additional new members.
