Eremos looks forward to a bright future with many more members. You will see that a card has been included with your magazine to assist you in spreading the word about Eremos so that the membership will increase. See page 35 for an explanation of the importance of helping Eremos to grow. In another new move, we have established a list of contact people across Australia—thank you to these willing people (see the back page). Thanks also to our letter writers (page 4).
Beauty, spirituality and mysticism all teamed with an understanding of God make for interesting reading in this issue. Alan Croker’s cover photograph and photographs by George Emeleus illustrate the first article, by Les Higgins, on beauty in nature and our God-given appreciation of it.
In questing mode, the following two articles, by Janet O’Sullivan and Danny Kinane, search out the relationship between religion and spirituality and mysticism and religion respectively. Book reviews by Frances MacKay and Clive Norton follow, the one on the intriguing poetry of Dennis Wild and the other on Richard Holloway’s most recent book.
It has been over a year since we invited members to contribute ‘mini’ book reviews, and the request was met with the usual enthusiasm. The resulting nine little reviews will stimulate your reading self and introduce a variety of material.
Finally, two reports from members conclude the magazine, one by Anne Bailey, giving an account of her travels with Br David Steindl-Rast and Anthony Chavez on their recent trip around Australia, carrying Br David’s message of gratefulness. The other report is from Annette Bourquin who this year took a trip to Israel led by John Pryor. Annette feels Eremos members would enjoy this experience and John extends an invitation to members to join him for his 2010 Israel tour. ‘Out of Eremos’ activity, book groups, the retreat and, importantly, the forthcoming AGM on 8 November take up most of the information pages, along with the Noticeboard letting you know what’s going on around and about.
The rest of this page is devoted to news about the website. Now read on!
