Matthew Fox announced as keynote for Common Dreams Conference 2019
Matthew Fox, a 76-year-old elder, activist and spiritual theologian will be the distinguished international keynote speaker for the Common Dreams Conference in Sydney in July 2019.
Matthew Fox's history as a pioneering educator is long and luminous: from his visionary programs at Mundelein College and Holy Names College, to his renowned degree curricula at the University of Creation Spirituality, to his innovative work in the California public school systems, he has framed and reframed a radical pedagogy based on ancient wisdom traditions melded with leading-edge science and spirituality.
Author of more than 35 books on spirituality and contemporary culture, among them: Original Blessing, The Coming of the Cosmic Christ, The Reinvention of Work, A Spirituality Named Compassion and Meister Eckhart: A Mystic-Warrior for Our Times, his books are celebrated around the world, and have been translated into 60 languages.
Fox believes that “by reinventing work, education and worship we can bring about a non-violent revolution on our planet” and has committed himself to this vision for many years. His 2006 book, The A.W.E. Project: An Educational Transformation for Post-Modern Times, lays out the elements of an educational revolution for young people that is based on his 40 years of educating adults with an alternative pedagogy based on cosmology, creativity and contemplation.
He began the Creation Spirituality movement, which is based in ancient Judeo-Christian tradition, supported by leading-edge science, bears witness for social, environmental, and gender justice, and is flourishing in the creative and prophetic spirit of our times. An American Episcopal priest and theologian, formerly a member of the Dominican Order within the Roman Catholic Church, he is now a member of the Episcopal Church.
The fifth Common Dreams 2019 conference, Sydney will be held in Sydney on either 4 – 7 July or 11 – 14 July (the exact dates will be determined when the availability of the venue is negotiated).
