Book Cover gold with red text 'heart coming home'

Perhaps on the completion of a book it becomes clearer to the author why it was written and from whence it came. That is certainly the case with myself and ‘Heart Coming Home’. The cover reveals the story’s gold nugget, a loving reminder of our radiant, loving self. We are inherently good. So much of our contemporary culture tells us otherwise. It distracts us from this reverential reality. So often love is conditional on performance, appearance, position, achievement and compliance.

We are distracted also from the reality we need each other. Selfies are in fashion. Fierce competition has invaded and corrupted the kitchen, bathroom, the bedroom, the building of a house, the creation of a garden, renovations, our recreational pursuits. We are pitted against one another in all the arenas of life. Only the fittest survive. In the midst of it all we cry out for true friendship, to express our inherent capacity for loving kindness and to experience the joy of participating in mutual endeavours.

Still further we are distracted from the potency and generativity of our personal authority and power. In so many ways our authority is denied, ignored, negated, undermined. Our subsequent rage at worst is projected onto those closest to us and abuse is the consequence. Our inherent authority remains restless and repressed, molten magma, until released, reclaimed and acknowledged by life-giving action.

We have an inherent desire to be intimate with our inner quiet and its wellspring for soul. We need solitude and quiet to be vital social beings. It is easy to be constantly distracted from this critical need amid the noise and haste, the stress and anxiety of contemporary living and peripheral priorities.

Finally we are distracted from our heart’s deepest desire – to love and to be loved in our concern for the wellbeing of each other and the whole of livingkind. At our deepest depths and from our life origin we desire to extend our loving embrace to oneness with our ever expanding cosmos. It’s who we are and the destiny we desire to realise.

The book is a loving and bold reminder to myself to live these inherent aspects of my radiant self amid life’s tempests and gruelling times. It rejoices in seeing the radiance of each other so that together we are reminders of our inherent goodness as we endeavour to live the gifts of the Spirit with passion and joy.
