Sarah will speak about the emergent movement of contemplative Christianity and its place in our current context (e.g. Sydney, COVID, rising anxiety in many places). Her description of the qualities of a contemplative Christian community will be informed by her experience of the Benedictus community in Canberra and her theological and pastoral perspectives on prayer, silence, community and hospitality.
The workshop will include some exploration of what shape such a community in Sydney could take.
Benedictus is a contemplative church seeking an authentic, open-hearted and thoughtful encounter with God. Silent meditation, reflection on Scripture, and celebration are features of our shared life and worship. In the spacious hospitality of prayer and community, we learn to attend more deeply to ourselves and each other, and to the movement and calling of the Spirit in our time.
