Advent Quiet Evening
Advent Quiet Evening Online : What we hope for together
Sunday 28 November 2021 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm AEST
How shall we prepare together to celebrate Christmas 2021?
Join us for a gentle time of reflection, music, poetry, silence and deep listening.
Prayers of praise that Christians call a Doxology (Greek) or Gloria (Latin) often end with some words that, when translated into English mean, As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen (So may it be). They express our faith and hope in our present and our future.
How shall we prepare together to celebrate Christmas 2021 and the year to follow? Because in many aspects of our life, this year has not been normal, many of us aspire to a time soon when “it will all get back to normal”. We hope to live with good health and be safe. (So may it be normal).
Advent's promise holds a meaning that does not celebrate the good old days, or even the not so bad old days. Our cry is not “Come, Normal” but “Come, Immanuel”. Out of the disrupted and painful conditions of 2021, that have emerged in our world from practices and principles that prefer self-interest and violence to respect, we are placing our faith, hope and love in a coming that renews us to relationship with our world in union with God.
May our Advent retreat restore us and encourage us.
