We are pleased to offer this first Eremos event of our 40th Anniversary year and delighted that David Tacey, who is well known to Eremos members, will be our speaker. It’s offered online to enable members across the country and beyond to participate.
David Tacey will share a rich presentation exploring Aboriginal spirituality, law and belonging, and its value in addressing some of the spiritual, social and ecological challenges in our world today.
Miriam- Rose Ungunmerr* of the Daly River has said, ‘Dadirri is perhaps the greatest gift we can give to our fellow Australians’. David will speak about the value of dadirri, or deep listening, which he describes as perhaps the world’s oldest contemplative practice. He will also explore some of the cultural and spiritual barriers that prevent our recognising the value of this gift.
Following the presentation there will be time for small group conversation and discussion with David.
*Miriam Rose is a friend and colleague of David Tacey. She gave him permission to speak about the spiritual practice of dadirri. In 2016 David gave a talk on dadirri at Westminster Cathedral in London, with her blessing. She encourages non-Indigenous people to meet and discuss dadirri, and recognises that it is not always possible to have Aboriginal presenters at such meetings.
David Tacey is Professor of Humanities, La Trobe University, Melbourne, and Research Professor at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Canberra. He works across the fields of spirituality, religion, psychology and Australian culture. David is the author of sixteen books, including Edge of the Sacred, Gods and Diseases, Re-Enchantment, The Darkening Spirit: Jung, Spirituality, Religion. His most recent book is The Postsecular Sacred (2020)
