Religion and Justice: Uncomfortable partners or Natural allies? Venue Metropolitan Community Church, 96 Crystal Stm Petersham Time Saturday 9th November. Please plan to stay for the AGM and share in the news and discussions about Eremos this year and into the future. A presentation by Rev Rod Bower at the Annual Eremos Gathering. Bower has repeatedly used the signs out the front of his church to criticise the Australian governments’ treatment of asylum seekers, share support for the LGBTIQ community and spark a conversation about climate change. Spend an afternoon at the Eremos AGM and hear his thoughts on the relationship between religion and social justice. Enjoy a stimulating address and discussion with Father Rod Bower, Rector of Gosford Anglican parish, and social activist. Rod’s expresses his broad approach to living our faith: “I want to see the church speak out and be a voice for people society has forgotten or ignores. In my opinion the gospel impels us to act for justice and that’s the church I want to be part of.” About Father Rod Bower Father RodBower is a passionate advocate for a number of social justice and human rights issues, including climate change and marriage equality. Archdeacon for Justice Ministries and Chaplaincy in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle, he believes that our treatment of Asylum Seekers, the lack of action on climate change and the failure to adequately recognise First Nations people damages our corporate soul. He ran as a NSW Senate candidate in the 2019 Federal Election for the Independents For Climate Action Now. Rod is married to Kerry, also a passionate advocate for Asylum Seekers; they have two married children and three grandchildren.
